Analysis of the Makran Coastline of Iran’s Vulnerability to Global Sea-Level Rise

چکیده
The SE coast of Iran is great economic and environmental importance. Global climate change affects this coastline through sea level rise (SLR), compounded by a decrease in sediment budgets coastal areas. This study developed Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) for the using satellite, instrumental field data. Eight risk variables were defined: slope, regional elevation, mean tidal range, significant wave height, rate relative sea-level change, shoreline sensitivity socio-economic sensitivity. was divided into 27 segments based on geomorphic, socioeconomic traits. categorized their vulnerability to each factor CVI. resulting maps highlighted segment SLR. Approximately 50% comprised mostly rocky shores, which are less vulnerable 33% length, including sandy beaches, flats mangrove forests, determined be highly 12% moderately vulnerable. Population centers infrastructure ranked as highly-to-moderately high low-lying areas, such lagoons mangroves, western part Iranian Makran. Proper management mitigation plans essential future protect societies environments.

Vulnerability of the peatland carbon sink to sea-level rise
Freshwater peatlands are carbon accumulating ecosystems where primary production exceeds organic matter decomposition rates in the soil, and therefore perform an important sink function in global carbon cycling. Typical peatland plant and microbial communities are adapted to the waterlogged, often acidic and low nutrient conditions that characterise them. Peatlands in coastal locations receive ...
متن کاملGIS Analysis of Global Impacts from Sea Level Rise
Future sea level rise caused by climate change would disrupt the physical processes, economic activities, and social systems in coastal regions. Based on a hypothetical global sea level increase of one to six meters, we developed GIS methods to assess and visualize the global impacts of potential inundation using the best available global datasets. After susceptible areas were delineated, we es...
متن کاملModelling Coastal Vulnerability and Adaptation to Sea Level Rise
Coastal regions are highly vulnerable to sea-level rise (SLR) therefore developing and implementing effective adaptation alternatives is crucial for their future development. However, there is uncertainty in the timing, duration, spatial location and extent of SLR and storms. The complexity that arises from climate, coastal systems and their interactions in space and time can easily become over...
متن کاملthe effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)
cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Global DEM Errors Underpredict Coastal Vulnerability to Sea Level Rise and Flooding
Elevation data based on NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) have been widely used to evaluate threats from global sea level rise, storm surge, and coastal floods. However, SRTM data are known to include large vertical errors in densely urban or densely vegetated areas. The errors may propagate to derived land and population exposure assessments. We compare assessments based on SRTM d...
